Though Rhogar cut a near-uncontested swath through the Stormlands, butchering lords and razing castles in his wake, Roland Wylde's strategy ensured the safety of his army and his family amid withering supplies. Morale was consistently high, even as news from abroad and physical setbacks reached the command tent. One man-at-arms once said 'The only foe that could reach Lord Wylde was camp fever', and such a disease managed to catch Jocasta's mother. Fighting a war was easy. Consoling children was hard. Jocasta was mellowed, but remained by her father's side whenever she was capable.
