First off, a big thank you to this sub. The " stump the chump " post I made a few weeks ago was hugely helpful and got a lot more questions/comments that I could have hoped for. Basic info: Part 61. Sportys ground course. Cessna 152 ($100/hr wet). Checkride at 55. 7 hours. I started in mid February and was flying 3-4 times per week for a while. I slowed my pace down a little bit because I felt like my flying was outpacing my knowledge and wanted to keep a better balance. As the seasons and weather changed I went a few weeks where I couldn''t fly much at all. The days alternated between IFR conditions or high/gusty winds right across the runway that were over my comfort level. I used that time to study and passed the written test. I was not super thrilled with my score (85%) because I was easily getting 90%+ on practice exams. Oh well. I would not say it affected my checkride at all as in I didn't get "grilled" on the topics I missed from the test, but the DPE did ask at least one question per topic.
